First visit

What happens at a first visit

About 45 minutes, and most of it is talking.

Before you come, ask your midwife or OB whether chiropractic care is right for you. You can bring your questions and their contact details, and a partner or friend if you like. You will never be asked to undress.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Step 1: You arrive

Your name is on a list at the front desk. The waiting room is quiet, and there is a chair that is easy to get up from.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We talk

How your pregnancy is going, what has changed in how you sit, stand and sleep, and what you want from a visit. You tell us only what you want to.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A short exam

Dr. Das looks at how you stand and move, with a few gentle checks. You stay dressed.

  4. 04

    Step 4: We explain

What she found, what she suggests and the risks. You decide, and you can say no to any part.

  5. 05

Step 5: Care, if you want it

Light adjusting in a side-lying or pillow position, or only movement guidance.

  6. 06

    Step 6: Afterward

A written estimate and an itemized receipt on request, and, with your permission, a short note to your midwife or OB.

What to bring

Write them down. We answer each one.

  • Your care team’s name

We write to them only if you ask us to.

  • Comfortable clothes

Whatever you wear to rest in. Nothing comes off.

Questions about the first visit

What happens at the first visit?

We talk first: how your pregnancy is going, what has changed in how you sit, stand and sleep, and what you want from a visit. Then a short, gentle exam, and an explanation of what we found and what we would suggest. Nothing happens until you say yes, and you can stop at any point. Plan on about 45 minutes.

Will it hurt?

Most people feel pressure and movement, not pain, and some feel sore the next day. Pregnancy changes how you lie down, so we use side-lying and pillow positions and keep adjustments light. Tell us at any point and we change what we are doing.

Do I need x-rays?

We do not take x-rays as a routine. We recommend imaging only when it is medically necessary, and during pregnancy that decision belongs with your midwife or OB, so we would send you to them.
