A visit, by trimester

What a visit is like as your pregnancy changes

Dr. Das changes the visit as your pregnancy does. This page says how, trimester by trimester, and what she asks of you first.

  1. 01

    Step 1: First trimester

Short visits and a lot of talking. You may be tired and unwell, and some people wait. If you come, we keep it light.

    • A talk about how you are feeling

    • A look at how you sit, stand and move

    • Adjusting only what you are comfortable with

    • We ask you to tell your midwife or OB

  2. 02

    Step 2: Second trimester

Your body is changing quickly, and so are your hips, your sleep and the way you carry things.

    • Movement guidance for sitting, sleeping and carrying

    • Side-lying and pillow positions, or a table made for pregnancy

    • Light adjusting, if you want it

  3. 03

    Step 3: Third trimester

Visits get slower and shorter, and lying down needs more care.

    • Side-lying positions only

    • Webster technique, described first, if you want it

    • Shorter visits, and a plan for what to do if you cannot come

    • We make no claim about labor, birth or the baby’s position

  4. 04

    Step 4: After the birth

We wait until your midwife or physician says you can come.

    • A gentle first visit when you feel ready

    • Carrying and feeding positions

    • Short visits around feeding and sleep

Before you book

Ask your midwife or OB first

At every stage, the person who looks after your pregnancy decides first.

Ask them whether chiropractic care is right for you, and call them first about bleeding, leaking fluid, regular tightening, a fall or a blow to the belly, fewer baby movements than usual, or a sudden severe headache or swelling with vision changes. If they say wait, we wait.

Questions about timing

When can I start?

When your midwife or OB agrees. Some people come in the first trimester, some wait until the second, and some start after the birth.

Can I come late in pregnancy?

Yes, if your midwife or OB agrees. Visits are shorter, and we use side-lying positions.

How many visits will I need?

Dr. Das sets a plan with you after the first exam and changes it as your pregnancy changes. We do not promise a number of visits, and you can stop at any time.
